Not having Manchin or Sinema gives hope for finally abolishing or modifying the damnable 60 votes filibuster cudgel, so we can finally pass many popular legislation still hanging over our heads. It is really worth going all in to doing everything we can to maintain and possibly gain seats.
But that only works if we can elect two solid Democrats to replace them. People attack Manchin constantly, but he was the most liberal Senator we were ever going to get out of West Virginia. If we're going to replace him with someone even nominally better, it's going to mean flipping another state.
"One need only look at the U.S. House under Republican majority rule as Exhibit A in the difference the party in power can make."
Let's hope American voters recognize that electing their State Senators and their Representatives, (so to speak,) are just as important as President. When these tiny gerrymandered majorities favor the GOP, extremists reign and nothing passes.
If you've been to WV recently, you know you're in a different world, so chalk that one up as a loss. Here in Ohio, one of the R's is already wasting his own money on advertising featuring trump. Right there, he loses. And one of the most hated men in Ohio, Frank LaRose, is the other so-called candidate, so he's not a factor. It's the third guy, Dolan, who we need to watch out for. He's in the family that owns the Guardians ( Indians ) baseball team, and is a known and popular name here. As for Tester, I can't get on board because he supports assault weapon ownership. Shame on him. Texas is ours, because they know they messed up by keeping Cancun Cruz over Beto. And I would give just about anything to see Scott fall into a bottomless Florida swamp. Gallego in AZ is solid, and gaining. So I'm optimistic.
But can we please drop the word abortion, and replace it with the phrase "personal choice", or "personal freedom"? It sounds better, and there a lot of religious folks who will vote for Hitler if he doesn't use that ONE word.
I am already donating to the Biden/ Harris campaign. My Senator in PA, Bob Casey is up for reelection and his Republican challenger David McCormick is the former chief executive of Bridgewater Associates, the largest hedge fund in the world. He is pouring a lot of his own money into his campaign plus he has several big money donors supporting him so my donations will go to Bob Casey.
I may be too naïve, but I think, based on the non-red tsunami plus the seven states that rejected abortion limits, that Democrats have a really good chance of taking back the House and gaining a larger majority in the Senate. If we can keep hammering GQP candidates for their abortion stances and their fealty to Donald Trump, the Big Lie, and various conspiracy theories they espouse, I think we have more of a chance of winning than polls indicate. I think a majority of Americans are tired of the nuttery and the hits on people's freedoms, and we'll have an even better turnout and many surprize Dem victories at both the state and national level.
I am surprised there is no focus on the Lucas Kunce - Josh Hawley matchup in red Missouri. Maybe I am giving the rural areas too much credit, but my sense is that Hawley is not liked, and Kunce is a very relatable candidate with a military background. I hear they are currently polling within 1%.
Will the DNC ignore Missouri yet again? What gives?
Manchin,a true politician in every bad sense of the term.Granted West Virginia is not going to elect a democrat to replace him, but he knew he was on his way out,,why screw up the Presidents agenda and then retire?Hes not a young guy, he’s wealthier than 99.9% of his constituents, who are great people by the way,and not just the miners ,all the folks of the state that I’ve met over the years are the best of American culture.I mentioned the miners because my grandfather was a miner in Nova Scotia and he had the best stories about the people of the Company Towns in the 30’s,how they were all family in good times and ,more importantly the bad times,of which they had many.Anyway I think Joe is another example of an opportunistic politician who is far from being deserving of the respect from his constituents that he has taken for granted from them.

Fully agree on both counts. It’s a multilayered issue for sure.

I live in Ohio, so I have extra motivation to put my energy into keeping Brown in the Senate!

Agreed. If the Democratic candidates call the Republicans on their shit then they have a fairly good chance to win.
Alas, the Democrats absolutely suck at doing that.
