Please discuss election subversion through gerrymandering, voter suppression, and the possibility of states overriding the will of the voters to send their choice of Electors. Address what electoral reforms are needed to counter these unconstitutional trends and how to enable viable third parties as alternatives to the duopoly.
Another topic of interest would be the implications of Modern Monetary Theory for the debt ceiling debate and for funding progressive programs and the social safety net.
One topic I would like to see covered: the enormous expense of the U.S. defense budget, especially as a percentage of total government spending. Why must we fund it at a level greater than the next ten countries combined? https://www.pgpf.org/chart-archive/0053_defense-comparison What are the costs to the American people caused by this mis-investment?
If we reduced it to just the (outrageous) level of the top 3 countries, what could we do with that $450+ billion dollars a year? End hunger in the U.S.? Provide mental health services to people who need it? Provide lower-cost higher education (including the trades) to help our people compete better in the global economy? Attempt to alleviate centuries of racial injustice? Attack the deficit?
We have a fifty-plus year of prioritizing "defense" over investment in the American people.
What are the Big Picture consequences of this? How can we turn this around to make the U.S. a better place for all of us?
