Defeating REPUBLICANS matters more than anything else. I’m not wasting another minute despising trump. He can’t help the fact he’s been a practicing lying malignant narcissist his entire pathetic life. It’s the Republicans with absolutely no sense of shame or irony that have truly earned our disdain. Here they are demanding the Ten Commandments be posted in all public classrooms in Louisiana while nominating and worshipping a sick man who openly and repeatedly violates all ten. The problem is no longer just Donald Trump - it’s his Republican minions in the U.S. House and Senate and your state officials, legislatures and assemblies. And let’s not forget the criminal, duplicitous Republican appointed “justices” on the no longer supreme court. STOP VOTING FOR REPUBLICANS AT ANY LEVEL OF GOVERNMENT - Federal, State, Municipal and especially school boards. Until they regain their sanity, they have to be voted out of every office. Time to end their minority rule.

You are SO SO right. I would rather slit my throat than vote for a Republican.

Slitting your own throat, voting for a Republican.

Yeah. Same things.

The truly sad thing is that Republicans now say the same thing about Democrats.

I think we're sane and that MAGAts are in a cult.

Every single one.

Every. Single. Time.

They keep proving this daily.

Totally agree. This is where the biggest threat is in my opinion. Democrats must regain a majority.

And focus on supporting damn good Democrat representatives, following the local legislation, and reaching out to try to connect with those that have been misled by the red conspiracy.

And unapologetically support Our President Biden, a fine man and a great President! 💙💙💙🇺🇸✨

Whether or not the MAGAts succeed - we know they will give it one hell of a try. They are going to do their best to beg, borrow, or steal this election. As someone who had to fight long and hard to gain the right to vote in this country, I occasionally indulge in a fantasy that we turn out in such numbers that NONE of this MAGA crap will matter. No amount of voter intimidation, voter registration tampering, or gerrymandering.... Of course, for that to happen, everyone has to actually show up. I have been voting since 2008 - and I have yet to see it.

Maria,My next door neighbor ,and friend is 4 years older than I am ,he informed me when he moved in 5 years ago that he had never voted I was shocked 😳 I grew up in Boston where if you don’t vote you don’t get!….. anything ,I’ve been trying to get him involved but he doesn’t seem to care at all , no matter how hard I try to get him to see that it’s his duty to vote,as far as I’m concerned.Alas he seems to be a lost cause ,but I intend to continue trying!👍🤞some people born here don’t appreciate what they have been born to ,without having to fight and pray for the opportunity to have it as you have ,Go Figure!🇺🇸🤔

OMG, what the heck?! Does he have any idea what immigrants have to go through to be able to vote here? And, like you said, he basically just.... hit the cosmic jackpot by having been born here. He doesn't have to do squat to be able to vote - just.... show the hell up! Ugh.... People like that really make me angry.

It's possible. But there are so many ways to vote now. I am autistic, extremely introverted, have some PTSD, can't stand to be in the crowds - it's not EASY for me to get out there, but this is so important. So, I do an absentee ballot or early voting - when there are no lines.

Ooof.... True story - the day I came home after being sworn in as a US Citizen (this was August 24, 2008, 14 years minus one week from the day I landed here), the first two things I put in the mail were my passport application and my voter registration card. This was just before the first Obama election and I was DETERMINED to participate. Then I went to volunteer at this little art gallery and, of course, I was so excited, I talked about it to the women there. And one of them said, "You registered to vote? Why?" I was taken aback - honestly. I explained that I was now a citizen, I fought very hard to become a citizen because I wanted to help shape the future of this country. And she said, "I never vote - I am not even registered. Because that's how they get you to do jury duty." I wanted to shake her.

As we wait for SCOTUS to decide absolute immunity claim (again, see July '20 where they denied) can we discuss if AZ AG has been asked why Ginni Thomas wasn't indicted, when she had on topic communications with people who were indicted in fake elector scheme? Ditto IRS for taxes on gifts she and her husband accepted, they didn't claim in financial disclosures related to occupation, did they also neglect to claim in tax filings? If they didn't claim gifts then they should be charged for tax evasion. Hunter Biden was charged even though he repaid his back taxes, but Rudy Giuliani claimed his unpaid back taxes in bankruptcy court, there is definitely a problem with this picture.

The "forgiven loan" used to buy Thomas's vacation bus is definitely income. What we do not know is whether he's paid tax on it.

Of all the things Stone said, this concerns me the most: “At least this time when they do it, you have a lawyer and a judge—his home phone number standing by—so you can stop it,”

What judge is he talking about? How can you have a Judge "standing by" to call? Is he talking about a supreme court judge? Like Alito?

The rest is just blustery nonsense. However I do worry about what we don't know - do they have any other tricks up their sleeves? Do they have operatives ready to burn drop boxes? How many people have Gov. Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger scrubbed from the voter rolls? They've done it before. Stay vigilant!

Jay, while I appreciate posts

like this, that inform us of the

guardrails setup to protect

voting and the EC against

a Trump coup, I feel it's really

important to point out the

forces behind Trump this go

around and the damages done to voting within states.

Especially red states and

purple states with heavy

republican party presence.

Billionaires are financing

these endeavors: the

Heritage Foundation, Leonard

You undermine and destroy a

They've been busy for 3-1/2

I’m worried about the MAGA Republicans trying to interfere with voting in the first place - between gerrymandering and removing people from polls to places where anyone can contest someone’s right to vote, or just show up and intimidate voters. Now that SCOTUS has gutted the VRA they can do a lot of damage.

And voter purging…my vote and your vote could be legally thrown out which is very concerning in a deeply red state such as Alabama.

Expand full comment

Which is why you have to check your registration repeatedly before the vote.

Leave nothing to chance! Especially if you live in a red state.

From what I understand, you can do everything legally and you’re vote can still be thrown out.

I agree - all the methods you mentioned, they will try at the state and local levels...eg not just one big Jan 6 level tactic, but lots of on-the-ground tactics leading up to and during voting. They like to create chaos.

Truthfully, despite his manifold and increasing issues, I don't see his problems.

The American people are so unbearably stupid...they think the Bloated Yam is a hero and his band of traitors who stormed the US Capitol are political prisoners and hostages. They also think -- and I've seen the giant posters -- that vaccines are dangerous, the world is flat, and Jesus saves.

This argument appears to forget that the legal system in our country has been infected by right-wing roaches, including SCROTUS, who go by their own corrupt rules. Logic, reason, existing law does not apply.

Ok, thank you for answering my concerns; I feel better - kinda sorta. But still, my other concerns/questions are the boatload of tfg appointed judges and the ongoing voter suppression and purging of voter rolls.

I fervently hope you are correct. I look forward to November 5th and wish it wasn’t so far away, but I also dread the nastiness that 45 and maga will unleash on our country. I don’t think we will be relieved of 45’s whining until he meets his maker.

And sadly he has created an energized movement that will take decades to quell. They will have to be defeated over and over again, state by state, election by election, and only then and as they age out and Gen Z rises to prominence will we finally have a situation where being a pro-Nazi, anti-democracy, White “Christian” Nationalist will again be something one keeps to themselves and they will recede into the shadows. I remain unconvinced that there are any ostensibly moderate republicans: none of them can be trusted. None. If they can get the traitor re-installed they don't have to worry about being in vulnerable swing states because they won't ever leave their seats, elections at that point being obviated. Every scenario needs to count on every single republican being dastardly and traitorous.

Vote BLUE, through and through.

FEAR THE SUPREME COURT !

Expand full comment

I think Trump and the GOP are putting faith in the crooked SCOTUS. Look at the immunity issue for example. They figure anything they do will be made right by appealing to the Supreme Court. Any laws/rules they break won't.matter. We need a binding code of ethics, rules that apply and have some bite in them, a bipartisan watchdog group, and term limits for SCOTUS. Alito and Thomas have both said they can do as they please, they are untouchable. It's time they learned they aren't.

Jay, I really like reading your pieces. I've been a follower of Chris Cillizza for many years, from WaPo to CNN, and I deleted my CNN app in part because they fired him - but he seems to have become very pessimistic this year. I told him that I couldn't read his column anymore, and his reply was that if I couldn't handle the truth, the he wasn't the writer for me. It's not that I didn't think he was telling the truth - I wouldn't read a writer that I thought was lying - it's just that his analysis of events was so pessimistic. Jay, I think you tell the truth, too, and I don't think you're optimistic to the point of blowing smoke in our faces. Being a Pollyanna. But for now, I'm going to back off on Chris until after the election and keep reading you. (And no, I haven't stopped my subscription to "So What?")
