Have have to keep this message about the Affordable Care Act in the forefront of the upcoming campaigns. Trump is going to run out of feet if he keeps shooting himself in the foot.

I'll never forget, right after the Bloated Yam was in office, and he'd said he would kill off the Affordable Care Act on his first day, his epiphanic phrase: "I never thought it would be so hard to reform health care."

It was the first time in his life that something had been "hard for him" since he tried to open the hasps on the back of his girlfriend's bra.

"Bloated Yam" - that's a new one for me. Excellent!

Smartest person I know.

Second smartest is my daughter.

She's 26 and has been putting me in my place for 20 years.

The best one was in 2020...we were talking politics, and during the discussion, I had to flip laundry. I returned upstairs, and said, "While I was down there, I thought of something."

Without missing a beat, she turned to her mother, and said, "That could be dangerous."

Another good one was the time we were taking her back from college, and the motel room had no air conditioning. She let out some...colorful metaphors.

I laughed and said, "If I was a different kind of father, I'd be taking out my belt around now."

She looked me in the eye, and said, "And then I'd shut off your Wi-Fi access."

Could not argue with that.

I have a bunch more, of course.

I’ve been referring to tfg as Danger Yam! 😂

That's good, too.

"Bloated" refers to his obesity.

Remember when the G-20 politicians went for a stroll in Sicily and he had to ride in a golf cart?

You mention the strong support for Trump among Hispanics. I don't have access to Spanish language radio stations (or sufficient knowledge of Spanish to personally verify this) but I have read that on many, if not most, of the radio stations serving Hispanic communities, the "news" and commentary are heavily slanted to the right. Not surprisingly, the vast majority of Spanish-language radio stations are either owned by publicly-traded companies or by white men. We've seen what the "fair and balanced" crowd has done to the population that listens to them. What routes might there be to getting better news and commentary to communities where they are currently hearing only the spin?

Ye, my understanding is that the right has waged a clever, and apparently effective, Spanish language radio ad messaging campaign.

If, according to Trump, Obama is really the one pulling the strings in the Biden Admin, why should he or anyone else be worried about Biden's age?

Expand full comment

"Is it just the latest rantings of a crazy man’s shambolic campaign? Or is he crazy like a fox?" It's the former since Trump is not clever. As a retired academic (>35 years) who spoke in front of classes, academics, committees, professionals, etc., everyone makes mistakes when they speak in private and in public. When my graduate courses went online I'd make mistakes when recording lectures. Students made speaking mistakes in classroom discussions. I am tired of all the focus on speaking mistakes as signs of mental decline (ageism - I'm 71). Much younger speakers do the same thing. Maybe not as often, but they do misspeak; it's a human thing. I don't put any stock in speaking mistakes unless the person speaking does nothing to note the mistake, take responsibility for it, and then correct it. Trump, of course, cannot admit making mistakes and this is one of the many ways in which he demonstrates that he's dangerous.

Indeed. All signs point to political peril.

They should get Obama out on the campaign trail now. As red meat for Trump to lose his shit over.

Between his court cases and his personal bogey man being out and about making headlines? Watch Trump melt down all over the place.

Trump manages to keep the debate narrow & shallow. So many issues that need attending to that don't get attention as long Trump sucks the oxygen out of the room leaving America semi conscious.

Every Democrat politician and pundit should be shouting from the rooftops the positive things Biden and his administration have done. Enough of the quietly doing their job; Tell people about it! Don’t assume people know.

I live in AZ and had recently retired at age 55 (in excellent physical & financial health) when Trump tried to tear down the ACA. Individual insurance is very expensive, so I was on the ACA coverage. A day or two before the big vote, I left a polite but stinging (I hope) voice mail for John McCain, my senator, asking him what he thought people like me should do if Obamacare was revoked? And why would he vote for something so cruel and chaotic for those who NEED the coverage. The next day he voted the repeal down in an unbelievable act of courage and integrity. I flatter myself that my message made a difference, but either way, McCain was a true hero that day.

Unfortunately John McCain has been lost to the world,he was an honorable and decent human being. In my 67 years he was the only Republican I considered voting for,if I was100 years old I could have voted for Dwight Eisenhower, the only other Republican I would have voted for. That being said,if I do live as long as my Ma ,who passed away today, don’t think I will ever see men of honor such as John or Ike,and it doesn’t appear that the Republicans little are capable or even willing to have men like these two, representing their ethically malignant party!Thier own party is in a war with itself and it is imploding as the day goes on.Corruption lack of integrity, ethics, compassion are not in the interests of the cowardly little things (won’t call them men)that run the Republican game show! Abe Lincoln is spinning in his grave no doubt watching the abomination of his party pimping itself to the highest bidder,be it American or foreign, the total distortion of the Constitution the calls for it to be suspended, what the F are these traitorous bastards doing in the halls of our Congress The People’s House is a joke ,The Senate is nearly done for, the Courts are bought and paid for the Supreme Court is a laughing stock up for grabs to the highest bidder! All this is Really happening right now,not to some half assed make believe wannabe place, but us The United States of America our country not the parties the politicians belong to and seemingly value more, but OUR friggen Union! No kidding we are going down the tubes faster and faster each day and come November we can easily lose it forever. Wake the F up kids this is not a TV or computer game it’s for the whole ball of wax, our sorry asses are on the line like never before in history!Stop voting for all Republican candidates traitors or those few who are not vote them ALL out!!!Give AMERICA a chance to fix this mess and let the kids enjoy the promise of democracy we use to value above all else!!That was my Mothers writing from her new home with her God!

You have my sincere sympathies on the loss of your mom. What you’ve written is all true, and we all need to be vocal about the hope offered by a Biden reelection rather than the guaranteed destruction of our government if tfg returns to office.

Joe Biden chose not to run in 2016, after the death of one of his sons. Understandably, he lacked the energy for such an all encompassing candidacy. The result - agent orange cheated and beat Hillary Clinton.

Having recovered from those awful losses, Biden saved our arses by running in 2020 and defeating the loser - agent orange. And now we have agent orange giving the GOP and fellow candidates the finger by refusing to participate in the debates and running off at the mouth about what he will do as prez for a second term.

Once again to the rescue is Joe Biden - who probably does not want to spend the twilight of his life with this horrendous nonsense (MAGA Mike Johnson as Speaker, dimwitted tubbervillain sabotaging our military, Moscow Mitch McTraitor and his minions cashing in on the Inflation Reduction Act though they voted against it). Biden announced yesterday that he has to run again to beat the ultimate idiot (agent orange).

In my humble estimation, we should not quibble about Biden’s decisions during his presidency. We should praise him for saving us from another 4 years of agent orange. We should honor him for his devotion to us by running again, when he knows how hard the presidency can be on anyone.

Perhaps we long for the good old days - when there was a greater sharing of America’s great wealth. Joe Biden would bring back much of that for us and level the playing field. Agent orange (aka donald j rump) longs for the gilded age when oligarchs destroyed families and America with their greed.

“the donald" is not the Messiah. He is a pariah.

Well that is going to be interesting. Last week North Carolina finally turned on ACA enrollment here. So what are those 600,000 people going to do? Not bother to sign up because of TFG said so. Wait and see if he gets elected. Or go ahead and sign up because having some health care now for at least a year is important.

For them the question will be vote for the cult leader no matter what and hope for a replacement or not and lose their healthcare, or vote that other guy and keep their healthcare that they can have now.

When you think about it, the only real way to have a better plan than the ACA is national health care. The free market being what it is (and aside from certain requirements, that's how the ACA operates, with competing insurance companies) any plan that simply takes away the protections of the ACA is going to hurt people. How do you make premiums cheaper? Well, start by allowing rejection of those with pre-existing conditions. The individual mandate, intended to allow insurers to have a pool of healthy insureds to balance the costs of the less healthy, was shut down by GOP litigation.

Or, in Donald's mind, national health care only for those loyal to him, who sign a loyalty oath and can prove they voted for him, is the ideal Much Better Plan. After all, those who oppose him are subhuman, and should have to buy veterinary insurance anyway.

The only plan that would come from trump to replace ACA would be the same “negligent homicide” he perpetrated during the COVID pandemic. That thought is not original with me.
