Anyone voting for a Republican candidate is voting for a national ban on both abortion and birth control. They will continue to push this anti-women agenda even though they are in the minority. Protect freedom.

No matter how noble the “pro-life” group wants to paint themselves (with statements like “giving a voice to the unborn”), we all hear the horror stories which result from abortion bans and restrictions. Yet the self-described “pro-life” folks are fine with the results — they say the bans are working as intended and their goal is still to eliminate all abortions. Their “pro-life” policies disregard the value of the pregnant woman’s life — but they are fine with that, it’s all about the unborn. (They even want to eliminate access to contraception and have put access to IVF in jeopardy.)

It’s all about power and control of women. It’s never been about the unborn. We know this because appropriate medical care (an abortion) is being denied even when the fetus cannot survive. If denying an abortion is about delivering a live baby, there can be no justification for denying an abortion when no baby can survive the pregnancy.

Medicine is not an exact science. Doctors know what to do when the patient in front of them presents with certain symptoms, but lawmakers ignore the advice of medical experts and write laws that threaten doctors if they dare give standard medical care to a pregnant women in distress. Making pregnant women wait until they are sicker, closer to death, before providing an abortion is cruel and reckless. None of this mayhem matters to the “pro-life” extremists, because if it did matter to them, they would fix it.

Even where a woman is experiencing a miscarriage and a baby cannot survive — still the law denies her standard medical care to safely end her pregnancy with an abortion. It’s nuts to deny life saving medical care to pregnant women. Most pregnant women already have children. If she dies, who will raise her existing children?

Without unfettered access to safe and legal abortions, pregnant women are made to needlessly suffer, risk permanent disability and death — this does not seem to be “pro-life” to me.

So I conclude that “pro-life” folks do not care about the horrors pregnant women face when their pregnancy is in crisis — they prove this when they refuse to take action to fix the mess they have created.

After hearing the women’s stories, now when I hear anyone say they are “pro-life” I know what they really mean is: “Let the women die.” If that sounds harsh, consider this: If it isn’t what they intended, they would fix it.

The legislators (mostly white male Republicans) who support abortion bans are willing to let the women die, so they need to be voted out of office — to be replaced with elected officials who will listen to medical experts and protect women’s reproductive rights.

The SC Dobbs decisions took away rights women have held for decades. Legislators have betrayed women. After seeing the results, I have come to believe in “abortion on demand and without apology” because women can be trusted to do what is best for themselves and their families. Clearly, judges and lawmakers are willing to ignore what the majority of Americans support: access to abortion.

Before you consider supporting an abortion ban after X weeks, please know that pregnancy complications can occur at any time during the 9 months of pregnancy. Some tests cannot be done until the third trimester when tragic fetal abnormalities can be discovered.

Given a choice, women who don’t want to be pregnant don’t wait until late in their pregnancy to end it. Women who want to be pregnant want to deliver a healthy baby. But when they find their own lives threatened by their pregnancy in the third trimester — especially when the fetus cannot survive — these women need accurate medical information to determine their options and the legal authority to make their own decisions. The law should not stand in the way of standard medical care.

Women should be treated with dignity and trusted to make their own reproductive health care decisions.
