Trump's handlers/mouthpieces like Roger Stone and Don Jr. came out with not complete disapproval. Their comments were pretty weak compared to the absolute condemnation by other conservatives. Then Trump’s recent comments seem to be minimizing her actions as just a "bad day" and trying to normalize it by claiming we all have bad days.

I think she's still the frontrunner. I hope he does pick her. Anything that harms his reelection efforts is good with me.

When I was a little kid, my dad had a farm near Woody Creek, CO. We had mostly dairy cows, some sheep, and a bunch of horses, many of them past their prime. If my dad had heard of someone shooting their animals like Noem, he, along with folks from the neighboring farms, would have paid a visit to explain why it might be a good idea for the culprit to move along. My papa was not, by any stretch of the imagination, a violent man. In fact, he was known for his gentleness. But he had a limit, and being cruel to animals just for the hell of it was waaayyy over that limit.

This speaks to Jay's Monday artical saying Republican nuts are so extremely nutty it's hard to imagine this not being a solid reason for Democrats to be cautiously optimistic about November. More people, we hope, will be allergic to these dangerous nuts that are harder and harder to swallow.

Thanks for calling out Noem the Cruel Hearted from the perspective of actual farmers who aren't sociopaths

Thank you for speaking up for farmers and rural people. I'm not a farmer but I've lived in rural areas for years. Only the tweakers kill their animals, but they don't stop with killing their own animals, they also kill their neighbors pets. Not farmers, tweakers.

What do you expect from Broebert v.1.

I lawyered for farmers and know them better than Noem.

It amazes me how many people think dogs (and babies, for that matter) are born understanding spoken language.

Thank you for presenting the view of many farm people. There are animals killed on farms and ranches but it is not something to brag about! Accidents happen, animals get old and infirm, varmints destroy property, and animals are raised for meat. She ruined a good dog because she couldn’t handle herself. As the writer said, a dog does what it’s trained to do. Lack of training is not the dog’s fault.

I also was raised on a ranch in Bennett County, SD, between Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations. My dad hated killing animals and never did I hear of killing a dog unless it was very old or hurt. And to kill an expensive hunting dog? Ffs

From the looks of her on several tv interviews, Ms. Noem has botoxed her face and expressions completely off her face. It makes me consider that when one’s face can no longer respond to the emotional ups and downs in life, a rage so severe can build up enough to kill a dog. Just a theory. But she is so cold and flat and lies with such perfect equanimity. How is this possible without the help of Botox?

Botox is a symptom, not a cause. The woman has no empathy and no soul. All she has is overweening ambition and heart full of anger and hatred. Which of course makes her a perfect wingwoman for the MAGAt king.

She's a former beauty queen who married money. But she shot the puppy about 20 years ago—she's just bragging about it now. If you look at her when she was in the state then U.S. House of Representatives, she looked more like that Kate woman from the "reality" show about having 8 kids. She got her MAGA makeover when she decided to run for governor.

As soon as I 1st saw this news story, I knew it was "All about the Training"! Sheesh. Gimme a break lady! Crap trainings on YOU!!

Trump hates dogs and Noem thought her cruelty would advance her in his favor. I realize that Trump has no empathy but I think he would reject her on the basis of as VP all she needed to do is trip him down a staircase to advance her position and she just demonstrated the character to do so.

He's oblivious to Putin's and Kim's self-serving machinations, so his situational awareness is pretty pathetic. I doubt he sees beyond people flattering him and Noem gushes over how fabulous he is all the time.

If Kristi Noem died as violently as that puppy and that goat, I would say she completely deserved it. She is the kind of person who should get the death penalty.

What's the Clarence Darrow quote (often misattributed to Mark Twain):

"I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."

Or for modern times, I'd never wish for anyone's death, but I might be struck mute if they accidentally stepped in front of a bus. (I'm not sure where that comes from—probably my Mother—it's just something I've said for years.)

If she could callously shoot a puppy and a goat, on the same day, how long before it’s people she is hurting. Good for the tribes in banning her!

They say that many serial killers got their start as youngsters torturing and then killing cats and dogs.

Exactly.

She actively hurts people.

Her official "let's ignore the pandemic because it's bad for business" policies killed people. Every year she tries to demand fireworks at Mount Rushmore despite a years-long drought making the forests it's in a tinderbox waiting for a spark (National Park Service keeps telling her no and shd keeps having a tantrum about it).

South Dakota's for-profit, privately contracted foster care system lines her administration's pockets by targeting Indigenous families.

The most disturbing part of this whole disturbing situation that “conservatives” apparently care more about a puppy than actual human beings.

People have been saying for years how horrible she is. South Dakota's for-profit, privately contracted foster care system lines her administration's pockets by targeting Indigenous families. No one cared. Her COVID policies killed people. No one cared.

People are weird in what they'll care about and what they'll disregard.
