I've been concerned about the Superintendent of Public Instruction as the Republican candidate is so, so extreme. So far the Democratic candidate, Green, is in the lead.
I know how hard this first hour can be with so many small red states plus Florida dominating the broadcasts and media calls. Have patience! Our states are on the way.
It didn't hurt that he pledged to visit every NA reservation which, hopefully, he achieved. I saw a video his campaign made of him hiking down into the Grand Canyon to overnight at Havasupai.
Omg my brother told me to subscribe to your Substack and I was thinking, “Is this the Jay Kuo from high school?” And sure enough, you are! Thank you for all this important work you are doing my friend!
A note and a deep breath moment: There have been ZERO surprises so far as far as which candidate takes what state. Nothing has changed from expectation. The battlegrounds are where it’s all at!
Looks like Harris is doing very well in N.Carolina so far. Is that because the urban vote has been counted first, or is it an indication that she is doing well statewide?
Just a reminder, every episode of The Muppet Show is on Disney+, if you're inclined. It's the only thing that has been able to distract me. I think for all our mental health, finding a distraction for the next few hours is going to be the Way. The media (and not just the US media) are going to fear monger to the bitter end so we keep watching those sweet, sweet commercials. Find your favorite movie, take comfort that at least cellulose is forever. This whole other thing, it will pass.
Folks, I know many out there are hurting, thinking of how it’s possible so many of our fellow citizens could ever vote for a man like Trump after all we know about him. It’s even more terrifying to think that he could win the election if he takes any of the Blue Wall states. Harris is objectively suited to be president, and Trump is absolutely not. Let’s hope the people of the Great Lakes states agree. I am thinking of all you and I understand how hard this moment is. We are balanced on knife’s edge, when there was so much hope for a decisive win. I know I had that hope, and I admittedly was also blinded to the idea that so many could come out on Election Day and vote for such a man. Perhaps I see and trust the good in people.
We have not lost this race yet. There is still hope. We can pull it off, and I hope and pray we will.
We Democrats have a bad habit of expecting the best from our fellow Americans only to keep being disappointed in them by being reminded how racist & misogynistic this country really is.
I hope so too, but this is terrifying. That is not an exaggeration; I am in an absolute state of panic, and drinking in hopes to just get to sleep. I can only hope the world looks better in the morning, as there is nothing any of us as observers can do at this point in the game. I can't stop thinking about how long it took to prosecute the rotting pumpkin. Could this all have been avoided if charges would have been more timely? Did the Dems fail us as a country in this regard? So many what ifs, and so many people WILL suffer if he returns to power.
Thank you for that candid comment. Absolutely where we are. At this point 270 is a best hope. Can't believe we are here. Lots of soul searching to come, even if we land this in the win category.
Jay, I live in Clallam County, WA. “Clallam County in Washington state stands out as the only county to have voted for the winning presidential candidate in every election since 1980.”
Waiting to see what happens with Issue 1, too. The ballot language was a naked, disgusting and partisan power-grab. Hopefully our urban centers have seen through it. All we need is 50%+1.
There are already early indications of trouble for Trump coming out of the suburbs in Indiana, where he is underperforming his 2020 numbers, sometimes by as much as 8 points. In Boone county, he leads by 10.5 points with 91 percent of the vote in. But he won that county by 18.5 points in 2020. An 8 points swing would be catastrophic if it replicated across the suburbs of the battleground states.
Indiana resident here: This makes no sense whatsoever because other than Ft. Wayne, NONE of the metro areas have results in yet. GOP always has the rural vote, and normally they do outweigh the metro/city votes, but this year had crazy turnout for the cities. Fingers crossed.
This result will obviously not change the outcome in Indiana, but Trump underperforming in the 'burbs versus his 2020 numbers could be a bad sign for what's coming in the nearby Blue Walls.
Hello everyone! Greetings from NYC. We’ll be covering the election through the evening tonight. I’ll be popping back and forth between my data, social media and this comment section. Welcome!
Hi folks. It’s been a long night, and it’s not over. All of us are no doubt in shock from what we are seeing across the country, with Trump performing better than in 2020 in nearly every way. It doesn’t make sense. It feels so very wrong. He’s a convicted felon. He’s an insurrectionist. He’s manifestly unfit for any job, let alone the presidency, and somehow the majority of voters don’t see that. My heart breaks for this country, and for the world, that so many here can be led to such folly.
Harris could still pull off a squeaker of win by sweeping the Blue Walls states, and I am hanging on to that possibility as I try to get some rest tonight. We’ll know more in the morning. I’ll leave the comments open, and if I wake up in the middle of the night and there is something new, I’ll leave a comment.
Community is important, especially when times are so difficult. We have built a community here, and it’s my promise to you that what ever happens, we will stand for justice, the rule of law, democracy, reason, science and compassion for others. Those values are ours and can’t be stripped away if we stand strong together.
I was part of an in person focus group as a WI resident. I’m not worried about Wisconsin based on what we talked about. The area I live in is almost always traditionally red. The people I sat in group with had the same concerns we all here do.
Pennsylvania, especially Philadelphia, has one of the highest stateside populations of Puerto Ricans in the USA. From an article I wrote last week, "Pennsylvania is home to about 600,000 eligible Latino voters with more than 470,000 of them being Puerto Ricans."
Thanks, Tony Hinchcliffe, for tanking the GOP with Puerto Rican voters.
Mark Robinson has been defeated in North Carolina by Josh Stein.
SMITE
Welcome God! Glad to see you here!
Thank you you're here!
Not unexpected but thank goodness! Robinson was extreme MAGA; full abortion ban w/no exceptions; Very, very poor candidate
By a really impressive margin, apparently
Thank goodness!!!
As a NC resident ….🙏🙏🙏🙏
This NC resident says, "YES!!" Josh Stein has been a great AG, and he'll be a wonderful governor!
As North Carolinian not surprised but also really relieved.
Wait, the self-described black nazi who masturbates to trans porn lost? Quelle suprise.
I've been concerned about the Superintendent of Public Instruction as the Republican candidate is so, so extreme. So far the Democratic candidate, Green, is in the lead.
87% of the vote reported:
Maurice Green
D
2,578,847
51.3%
Michele Morrow
R
2,447,626
48.7%
How can we know the gov race but not the presidential race? Because the margins will be so much closer?
NC= Eastern time
entire US for Presidential race.
I believe Joaquin is asking about the presidential race results in NC specifically.
Yes - "too early to call" per MSNBC
Woohoo!
Yayyyyy
As a NC resident this makes me smile.
Now I’m anxiously awaiting the AG results.
If that had gone down the other way I’d give up all hope.
Thank God.
I saw only 8% reporting?
YESSSSSS!
I know how hard this first hour can be with so many small red states plus Florida dominating the broadcasts and media calls. Have patience! Our states are on the way.
I’m in Texas. I expect the state to vote red but I’d be happy if we oust Ted Cruz. There is a chance!
Been donating to Colin from coastal CA for months. I really hope he pulls it off.
Same!
Same! Fingers crossed.🤞🏼
Hope so too! Let’s boot him to Cancun!
I’m trying to have patience! This is so hard!
where is the live chat? help!
You’re here! But this is a sub thread
This is not a live chat.
https://open.substack.com/pub/thinkbigpicture/p/election-night-live-chat-results?r=f75ka&utm_medium=ios
This takes me to a webpage, but it’s a static webpage. There’s no live chat there. How do I get onto the live chat?
Same issue. Frustration on top of fear. 😢
So annoyed with my state. We kept Dick Snot, rejected legal Marijuana and lookng like abortion amendment is going to fail!
Oh how I needed that reminder.
I’ve been repeating this to myself constantly as I obsessively check results. May it be so!.
Thank you!
Ruben Gallego defeats Kari Lake in AZ!
Thank God. She's unhinged. NDN Country went hard for Gallego.
Very good news!! Simon Rosenberg I think predicted this
Hurray from AZ!!!!
Thank the Christmas baby Jesus
Where do we see this. I'm trying to show my wife but the secretary site isn't reporting anything
awesome....
Thank God!
Helz yeah!
That’s great! I heard about an hour ago that she was leading!
Hooray!
Oh, thank goodness!
Happy happy Zonie!!!!
Awesome!
Yuss!
I can’t take this, I’m so scared, almost in tears 😭 gonna go watch a movie or something, this is just too much.
Just a reminder, every episode of The Muppet Show is on Disney+, if you're inclined. It's the only thing that has been able to distract me. I remember your deep breath comment in 2020!!
Thank you Jay! You keep me sane.
Ok, tonight I really need to hear Jay's analysis.
Same.
Someone else asked this same question....how are some states already called with only a small percent reporting so far?
They're a foregone conclusion. No one believes Mississippi is going to flip to Harris. No one believes Massachusetts is going to flip to Trump.
I was just doing some reading on it as well. Thanks for the response!
That helps! Still kind of ready to anxiety puke, but that helps a lot!
Not that it was ever in question, but Harris has won Virginia!
I know team Harris was watching to see how quickly VA was called as a bellwether; are they taking this timeframe as good?
Which network are you following?
Where do you see that? I see it still as red with the AP.
CNN has it red too
And Guardian
I’m not seeing this
Is the Hill accurate?
Why am I seeing it red, then
Who has called VA? CNN has not.
I'm not seeing this anywhere
CNN says tRump is leading in VA
Every news station I see has Trump leading VA
AP has not called that yet. Who has?
https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4964243-kamala-harris-wins-virginia/amp/
Yeah, that's where I saw it, and since The Hill skews a big conservative, it's probably on.
VA always looks red at first, until NorVA reports.
Arlington is so slow to count votes. Sheesh
Keep in mind: Every red state Trump has won he already won before in 2020. He still lost. Let’s see what the good people of PA, MI and WI have to say.
Thank you Jay. I’m having a panic attack
No need.
Me too
Bob Casey has defeated his Republican opponent to hold the PA senate seat! [Not every network has confirmed this]
ABC is saying Mc Cormick is now ahead.

We Democrats have a bad habit of expecting the best from our fellow Americans only to keep being disappointed in them by being reminded how racist & misogynistic this country really is.
It’s disheartening to see so many Americans support this man. I genuinely fear for the future of our country.
I’m heartbroken even if she squeaks the win
I hope so too, but this is terrifying. That is not an exaggeration; I am in an absolute state of panic, and drinking in hopes to just get to sleep. We’re done. The damage he’ll inflict will last generations.
I'm literally sick right now. Trying not to worry but it shouldn't be like this. A f-ing felon FFS!!
I can't help but think of things like the Chernobyl miniseries. Party above all else for some of these people.
Thank you for that candid comment. Absolutely where we are. At this point 270 is a best hope. Can't believe we are here. Lots of soul searching to come, even if we land this in the win category.
I'm praying right along with you.
HOW can so many millions support him?!?!?!!!!!! Can they not read or follow a coherent argument?
Jay, I live in Clallam County, WA. “Clallam County in Washington state stands out as the only county to have voted for the winning presidential candidate in every election since 1980.”
As of 8:16pm
Harris, 54.05%
Trump, 43.71%
PRAYING.
Sherrod Brown leads Bernie Moreno in Ohio, a must hold seat for the Dems, with 40 percent of the vote counted.
Waiting to see what happens with Issue 1, too. The ballot language was a naked, disgusting and partisan power-grab. Hopefully our urban centers have seen through it. All we need is 50%+1.
Love Sherrod - and Connie!
me too
🤞🏽
Harris has won NE-2 around Omaha. That means if she runs the table on the Blue Wall states, she wins the presidency. It will be an anxious, long wait
You've gotten me through years of stressful political things, Jay. We all appreciate you! Just gaming and watching this feed.
So appreciate you Jay.
yes we have been working for that on Simons Rosenburg's Hopium community - that 1 point will be very helpful! Great news!
Thank God. We need that with Blue Wall. Predicting 270 squeaker.
Send oxygen.
Where are you seeing this result? Nothing being reported on this in NE right now
Are there any where she might not?
What NE-2 means?
Nebraska splits it's 5 electoral votes. NE's 2nd districts one electoral vote has been awarded to Harris
Pls, bite your tongue.....

This is consistent with the Selzer poll results. Fingers crossed!
Only 7% counted but Harris is leading in Kansas.
Kansas has been solidly red for 50+ years. It would be a shock if it flipped blue.
and totally awesome.
If I’m interpreting this right, AP has called Indiana for Trump.

so does nbc
I heard that also
Hello everyone! Greetings from NYC. We’ll be covering the election through the evening tonight. I’ll be popping back and forth between my data, social media and this comment section. Welcome!
Angela Alsobrooks will become the first Black elected senator of Maryland.
So happy to hear this!

Go sleep, mate - whatever this is, it's not over tonight...
Thank you for being a light in the dark.
Have a good night. Thanks Jay. Hopefully it will look better tomorrow.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin is on track to hold her seat in Wisconsin so far. I hope that bodes well for the statewide presidential vote…
I was part of an in person focus group as a WI resident. I’m not worried about Wisconsin based on what we talked about. The area I live in is almost always traditionally red. The people I sat in group with had the same concerns we all here do.
Blue WI voter here!
That has been a scary one.
The story of the day is turnout in Philly. It will break it 2020 record, possibly by a lot. Some precincts report 150% above 2020 levels.
Pennsylvania, especially Philadelphia, has one of the highest stateside populations of Puerto Ricans in the USA. From an article I wrote last week, "Pennsylvania is home to about 600,000 eligible Latino voters with more than 470,000 of them being Puerto Ricans."

Which has triggered the orange one to call fraud. LMAO
That's 150% more ketchup needed, by my rough calculations.
