Hi, folks. It’s Jay Kuo, one of the writers at The Big Picture.
It’s hard to believe, but our publication is celebrating its one-year anniversary tomorrow. Many of you joined us on Day 1, and others found us and signed up after you liked what you saw. However you came to us, we are grateful to have you!
As I reflect on this first year, I’m so proud of our many accomplishments. We’ve tackled some tough subjects, seeking to bring clarity to many difficult, complicated, and often troubling topics.
We raised a warning about the dangers of stochastic terrorism, which former president Trump now regularly uses as a weapon to intimidate witnesses, court staff, and his political opponents.
We covered the rising threat of Christian nationalism and how its adherents are now at the very pinnacle of our government and our courts.
And we brought unique perspectives, such as the continuing cultural genocide of Indigenous people in America through our foster care system and how miscarriage care is collateral damage from abortion bans.
As you know, we depend completely on voluntary donations from our readers to continue our independent reporting and analysis. If you’re not already subscribed, we’d love to count you among the ranks of our paid supporters! Please help us celebrate our first year by upgrading your account today.
Your contributions also support our interviews with some of the greatest thinkers, experts and leaders of our time, from David Wallace-Wells on the future of climate change, to Ruth Ben-Ghiat on the danger of modern fascism, to David Hogg and Rep. Maxwell Frost on the gun safety movement and the rise of Gen Z in politics.
There’s a Buddhist principle called dana I have spoken of before, meaning generosity and support. It operates on the idea of reciprocity. With The Big Picture, we pledged our best efforts to provide a clear understanding of the issues and challenges of our time. In exchange, we invite readers to reciprocate a dana reflecting the support, guidance, and clarity you feel you have received.
Today, we come again with our offer of best efforts as we head into our second year of publication. We hope that most of you who pledged a year ago will choose to re-up with us. It comprises a huge percent of our annual base of support, and it would mean so much to us if you renewed with us.
And if you’re inclined to help us start Year 2 off by upgrading to a paid subscription, you can do so today!
A small housekeeping matter: If your card was canceled or expired this year, you’ll receive a notice from Substack asking for a new card number. And don’t forget that your charge may appear as a Substack or Stripe charge, so that you don’t dispute it with your bank!
Thank you from all of us here at The Big Picture for being an amazing, engaged, and supportive audience and community. We look forward to continuing to report on what no doubt will be a historic and crucial year for our country and the world.
Our warmest regards and thanks,
Team Big Picture:
Jay, Todd, Amelia, Nora, Kate, Rebecca, and Noa.
The Supreme Court is the new Aileen Cannon. Delay trump's criminal trials so he can run for President without felony convictions. So SCOTUS is hoping to install a dictator POTUS? THE GOP is destroying our democracy. I hope everyone is paying attention.
Vote BLUE so we can fix the Court! And wear this in front of MAGAs: t.co/qamICK599Z
🤣
I’m so happy I found you!
