At what point do those who make baseless claims get held accountable for the waste of time, and other negative connotations that come with baseless claims? I get that negative connotations are what the GOP is all about but until someone is held accountable those who follow blindly will never know the truth.

They will be held accountable at the ballot box. My gut tells me the election of '24 will go down in history as the end of the Republican cabal, and the birth of a normalized Democracy.

I sincerely hope so. With the extreme gerrymandering that goes on I have to wonder.💙

I think most people are absolutely fed up with Republican shenanigans, and will take it out on them with their votes. Plus, here in Ohio, gerrymandering will be on the ballot in '24, and Ohio voters have made it pretty clear we have had enough of the corruption here. I have a feeling this is in most other states, as well.

I was just wondering that too. I think the IRS should give all of us a tax amnesty next year and send the bill directly to these bozos for wasting everyone's time and taxpayer money.

It seems time to get the press to start discussing the reasons why many of the Republican members should be removed from the senate just as George Santos was. I still don't think anything he did, which was to defraud his own donors, which as far as I'm concerned all Republicans are doing by their very actions of not governing, is worse than those sitting in Congress who participated in the coup to overthrow the election of Biden with Trump. MTG is so eager to impeach, but we should be going after her too. If the mainstream press was worthy and legit, it would be following this story like a cat follows a mouse.

Which of these things is not like the others?

Clinton impeachment: Lied about White House blow job

Trump impeachments: Tried to blackmail Ukraine to dig up dirt on Joe Biden; incited a mob to attack the Capital and interfere with the legitimate transfer of power

Joe Biden: No earthly idea

Republicans just refused to let a gun safety proposal come to the floor, after two recent mass shooting. They just refused to agree to aid to Israel, Ukraine and Tawain. They still haven't passed most of the legislation concerning the budget. American voters get tired when Congress (Republicans) refuse to do their job.

If only the media would report it like that - what the republicans haven’t done opposed to the one thing they want to do - which has nothing to do with their constituents.

Expand full comment

The media will continue to report it as “Congress in disarray” and “The House unable to pass legislation”

When the truth is “REPUBLICAN PARTY in disarray” and “REPUBLICANS refuse to bring legislation to floor”.

But that would require they actually do their jobs and report things truthfully.

CNN is now Republican as are Many other TV news outlets. Republicans are buying our news channels/press and pushing their Republican narrative. There are very few Democratic TV stations. MSNBC tends to lean far left. We need a New Moderate Democrat TV station Domestically and Importantly INTERNATIONALLY! Millions of Americans live or work abroad and they watch CNN. Time for a New channel!!

Is it possible that the larger aim here is to promote the idea to the American public that "Impeachments are all politically-motivated shams, therefore Trump's two impeachments don't mean anything either"? Or am I seeing strategy where there's really just stupidity?

This all stems from Trump's so-called brain. He is urging Biden's impeachment inquiry for three reasons--political distraction from his own very real crimes, for revenge and for campaign ammunition. He riles up his MAGAt base and they push on their MAGAt Reps and the MAGA Reps push on Johnson.

Not

to bypass the fact that it's very likely that Trump only went into politics to destroy democracy. As a friend of dictators worldwide he seems to be of the character we connect with dictatorship. His treatment of his wives, his employees, people who have worked for him like outside contractors, all suggest that this is a man who thinks only power should make the difference. What makes America great is that we are equal before the law and he and the current crop of GOP are doing everything they can to decimate that. Sadly we seem to have a lot of people in America today who are benefiting from erasing equality as a primary concept in national justice.

Retribution. Public threat. Propaganda. No evidence. No due process. No regard for law, Constitution or people. 'Judge and jury' thinks he is divine, chosen by God to rule over others.

That's not just impeachment. It is a foretelling of a legal system under MAGA.

The current behavior of SCOTUS and Aileen Cannon seem to be proof-of-concept, and there seems to be no major brouhaha or protest against either one; so you're probably not far off the mark. 😒

I find myself wondering if cheapening the impeachment process to the point where no one takes it seriously may be part of the point. Given how often Trump and the GOP like to accuse the DEMs of doing the very things the GOP is up to, I find myself thinking about whether getting people used to dismissing such allegations because they seem so familiar is part of the "repeat lies until they seem like the truth" game plan.

I have little doubt that the GOP is aware that, if re-elected, Trump absolutely will do something impeachable. Repeatedly. Maybe it's in the back of some of their minds that if they can redefine "impeachment" as frivolous political gamesmanship, he'll be less likely to be impeached later on. While MTG may be more of a "Go-Fish" player, I'm sure there are some chess players in the party somewhere.

Mike Johnson is a MAGA through and through. Any pretense he made at opposing the sham impeachment is just that--pretense. He reminds me vaguely of Himmler.

Let's not forget his self comparison to Moses, per Bible tools (😉) that makes him a false prophet, the Old Testament calls for the death penalty, just saying.

In all the time I lived in Colorado, Ken Buck was ....... well, let's just say I never agreed with him and used more than one four letter word to describe him. Now that I've moved to NY and he's decided not to run for re-election, he seems to have found his spine. I still don't agree with him on most policy issues, but at least now he knows right from wrong. (BTW, my Rep was Joe Neguese. He is still fairly new to Congress and is definitely a man to watch.)

Thank you for once again shining a light on the cynical hypocrisy and deep dishonesty of the GQP.

So sad that there is zero accountability for this endless fuckery at the country's expense (the result of wildly gerrymandered voting districts and extreme voter suppression).

“he can’t lose more than three Republican House members or even the inquiry will fail to launch.”

There isn’t even a single Republican who has the integrity to vote ‘No’. Let alone three.

Not a single Republican with the morals or maturity to say “No children, your hissy fit does not mean you get your way. Now shut up, lie down, and take your nap.”

“That doesn’t seem to matter to the GOP”

“Seems”?!!

Why do people, who clearly know how bad Republicans are, insist on wimping out on calling them out on their shit?

An entire article describing, in detail, all the many ways in which the GOP is knowingly and repeatedly showing complete disregard for the process or law and then in the final paragraph...

a conclusion that it merely “seems” to not matter to them.

Come on, Jay. Have some courage with your convictions.
