Considering how Trump's Justice Department is now akin to Keystone Cops, has anyone considered how the charges against the Southern Poverty Law Center could be the Justice Department's undoing? The SPLC could win. Or whatever judge is hearing the case could get so fed up that they dismiss the case against the SPLC with prejudice.
Full Disclosure: I am not a lawyer. I am a layperson. And I am really rooting for the SPLC to be victorious in every way.
The real question for the future is whether any restraints anyone attempts to put on a Rogue DOJ will survive the unitary executive theory.
Till then we should perhaps follow Hegseth and simply rename the Department. I propose Department of Extreme Injustice, commonly known as the DEI.
(It just hit me--I'm slow--that Dept of War as an acronym is DOW. The name needs to be expanded further to make it clear who is running the country. Dept of War Just Originating Needless Expense Swiftly--DOW JONES.)
Thank you Jay. The amount of so much blatant corruption is staggering and yes something to watch intently and keep an eye on. Have hope because when that goes there really is no turning the tide IMO that justice does prevail. There are many good lawyers and judges holding the line as fragile it seems even more that are the champions of justice the hero’s and shero’s fighting back this ever tide of dishonesty, depravity and soulless behaviors from people in power.
Lord Acton was quoted, “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority; still more when you superadd the tendency of the certainty of corruption by authority.”
Aristotle was quoted, “For man, when perfected, is the best of animals, but, when separated from law and justice, he is the worst of all."
Hoping that there are many more of the “good guys” who are still within the justice system, not separated who are the best of the animals than the ones who are defiled by corruption, power and wealth..
All that astonishing institutional damage in just over 18 months, with another ca. 30 mos. remaining to burn it completely down to the ground. Job One: get after David Hearn again!
Saying he will "follow the law, whatever it is..." is meaningless. He will treat any EO created by The Heritage Foundation for Dumbold T Rump to sign as law. There is no doubt that that is why he couches it that way. Remember Clinton's testimony that "there IS no sex...". That likewise was an intentional parsing of his words so that he could say he never lied. If Blanche agreed to uphold specific, current laws, we could point out specific lies when he acts illegally.
What a depressing but necessary read. The most worrisome part to me is the "no holds barred" approach to interfering with our election processes. At least Barr drew the line; Blanche will cross the line with glee - "I love you, sir."
I hope the anger with the orange blight results in record breaking voter turnout in November. I've noticed that people are speaking more freely about their anger and frustration with the orange blight. He probably won't face prosecution. But his enablers had better be afraid, very afraid!
i hope there is a plan in place for the november elctions!! because they WILL TRY TO STOP US!! THEY WILL INFILTRATE AND CONFISCATE VOTES! WE NEED OUR OWN ARMY TO GO AGAINST THEM!!
The US today is so different from Nixon's time. Then, information flowed from very few outlets - mainly three major networks and a few stodgy newspapers that had trouble deciding whether or not to publish the Pentagon papers.
The possibilities now for leaks and disseminating information far exceed those days. And the behavior of this administration is so egregious that a literal legal army stands ready to do battle with any slings and arrows that may emanate from the White House.
All along, Blanche has been able to wreak havoc without the benefit of a title. Fortunately, the incompetence of a disabled DOJ has caused the hairs of even Trump appointed judges to stand on end. The more outrageous the behavior of Trump and the DOJ, the greater the response from the legal system.
Good explication, Jay! I seriously doubt any DOJ lawyers who helped him and “anyone who gets within 200 feet” of his gold paint encrusted Oval Office will simply be given preemptive pardons. My personal belief is that DOJ is important enough to liberate from the Executive Branch and become the 4th freestanding branch of the Government. I also believe the Inspectors General need separation and elevation to become the guardians of Government Ethics and given the job of investigating and if necessary, charging, indicting and trying any official they find to have broken the law or deliberately violated The Constitution. The Presidential Pardon needs to be tossed on the scrapheap of History.
I know I ask this ad nauseum - but what do we do? Especially now that Trump is hinting at manufacturing a national emergency and meddling with the election?
Apparently there's legal precedent that neither the courts nor Congress can challenge an assertion of "national emergency" So that's a ticking time bomb. Congress needs to revamp the whole system of declaring national emergencies, it relies too heavily on ethical actors. Of course one reason we're in this mess is because Congress has declined to exercise the powers it has - declaring war, impeaching unethical/corrupt/compromised executive (and judicial) branch personnel, power of the purse, investigations....
The only thing that has stopped asshole so far are the courts -Thank god for them -
If not for the courts this country would be like Germany in the late 1930 ‘s
Democrats that are in Congress now should be renamed the “do nothing party “
Remember when democrats had the majority in congress during Biden’s first two years, the Republicans, even though they were the minority were still able to block most of democrats bills -
Knowing about the corruption and the historic misuse of the justice department I am wondering why this is not an elected office vs. A presidential appointment, even with needing congressional approval? That office is supposed to work for the people of this country, not one person or group of people.
Why do these MAGA men look older than they are?

I never will forget Bill Barr's abridged of Mueller's report on Trump and the Russians. He is not vindicated. to me.
The next coup attempt is unfolding before our eyes. What/who will stop it???????!?

Not follow the law, "filter" the law to suit himself and Trump.

My G the darkness of this administration and POs, with the help of cowards that voted this travesty into place is beyond comprehension.
