Boy. I read your paragraphs on the "sincere concerns" standard now apparently the one courts should listen to and thought "yeah, and where have we heard THAT phrase before." And bam--your next section is on the New York case about our old friend "sincere religious concerns."
Interesting that now there IS an approved treatment for HIV the court may be letting insurers off the hook for providing it.
“This decision has the potential to be catastrophic for trans youth.”
Why wimp out and say “potential”? Why the unwillingness to fully call Republicans out on their shit? Why describe with clear examples exactly how this **will** hurt trans youth and then… say it only might?
We need to stop worrying about hurting the feelings of those who are actively trying to kill us and CALL THEM ON THEIR SHIT **WITHOUT** BACKING OFF!
Following this ruling, not only are trans kids at risk, but so is the bodily autonomy of any member of any community who finds themselves in the sights of the hard right. Our freedoms are now up for “fierce debate,” subject to the “sincere concerns” of those who want to do us harm.
These decisions should come as no surprise considering the toxic Conservatism that permeates this iteration of SCOTUS. The White, Christian Nationalists who have gained the upper hand in this country are determined to steer us back to a time when kings and the nobility had carte blanche and were above reproach. They also want to rewrite history and deny us all of our hard won freedoms. This will be a long, difficult struggle because they have many resources at their disposal but, in our democracy, power comes from we, the people. If we resist and oppose them, then it will be increasingly hard for them to impose any of their strategies upon us. In a few more cycles, the White Majority will become a majority minority, further weakening their power over us. In the meantime, we must continue to try to thwart them at every step along the way.
“Despite the fearmongering and lies about the trans community, the reality is just this: parents of trans kids want to be able to make healthcare decisions for their kids with their doctors and without interference from anti-science state legislators more interested in waging a culture war for personal gain than they are about kids’ safety.”
Let’s try that one again.
“Despite the fearmongering and lies from the trans community, the reality is just this: parents want to be able to make experimental, non-evidence-based decisions for their kids with their homophobic money-grubbing doctors and without interference from anti-child-mutilation state legislators more interested in kids’ safety than they are about waging a ridiculous culture war.”
Comment-bomb me telling me I’m evil/bigoted/Republican all you want, I won’t be engaging further with this comment section. However, if you have questions about why a disproportionate amount of “trans kids” are gay, and/or mentally ill, and/or victims of sexual assault, consider checking out Jamie Reed’s whistleblower testimony. https://www.thefp.com/p/i-thought-i-was-saving-trans-kids
Not to mention that puberty blockers are *not reversible* and cause permanent damage to bone growth, also not to mention that stopping puberty and replacing the body’s natural sex hormones with synthetic cross-sex hormones (yes I know women and men both produce both testosterone and estrogen—don’t be stupid, please) is an insane gambit when there is no actual diagnostic criteria for being transgender, just self-report.
There are so many of us who *actually know* what these hormones and surgeries do to troubled people seeking relief, and it isn’t pretty. Telling kids in the most turbulent part of their lives that they can be the opposite sex is lying, and sets them up for far worse outcomes than if they were simply supported, as themselves, in their healthy unaltered bodies. If your response to that is to call us hateful, well… don’t shoot the messenger. These interventions hurt the very people they are meant to help, and it is disappointing that Democrats refuse to see what is right in front of them.
SCOTUS Is the ILLEGITIMATE KANGAROO COURT of the Trump Dictatorship! This is how NH’s is written as well. Breast implants are fine for minors who are AFAB, but not for trans teens. Luperon is fine and safe for a 16 year old girl who needs it for a medical condition but not if she’s trans.
They are so against trans kids getting care here when HB 606 (for adults) was being discussed they were trying to make it not applicable if the patient had gender dysphoria even IF that adult has a medical condition they’re seeking treatment for that had nothing to do with their gender dysphoria.
So basically if HB606 becomes law they wanted it written in a way that if I was seeking a hysterectomy to treat a medical condition that would be fine unless I ALSO had gender dysphoria and then a doctor could refuse me treatment. The way it’s written now (I think) is that a doctor could refuse to give me a hysterectomy to treat my gender dysphoria but not if I needed it for endometriosis.
It’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous that we need to pass an anti-discrimination law so that people can get medical care that would affect their fertility when we say we need the medical care and we don’t care about our fertility. A doctor should not be able to tell me that I don’t know my own mind and that I might decide later that I want babies even when I say I know I don’t.
Multiple women testified in the public hearing that they were denied treatment for PCOS or endometriosis or lupus even when they had a husband who had a vasectomy because the doctor would say well what happens if something happens to your husband and you marry a man who wants babies?
Sorry, I don’t mean to go off topic. Or is it? People are being denied medical care because of patriarchal ideas about breeding and women’s worth. I hate it.
Thanks for this clear, concise review. Since SCOTUS wants to play word games, would there be a practical legal effect from medically redefining "gender dysphoria" as "sex dysphoria"; "gender identity disorder" as "sex identity disorder"; and "gender incongruence" as "sex incongruence"? Trans people I know do not typically feel disconnected to their gender assigned at birth, rather they express that their sex assigned at birth is incorrect. So the names of the medical diagnoses have always puzzled me a bit. Maybe it's time to change them.
I still can't get over the hatred and cruelty of this administration. It's nobody's business what people do with their bodies. These self righteous busy bodies are too worried about other people's lives than examining their own failings. If they keep throwing decisions to the states, why do we have a supreme court? They are supposed to be the final decision makers.
Right? And the terrible thing is that people have been so distracted by the president’s nonsense a lot of these states are passing these laws and no one is paying attention. I live in New Hampshire where we have a Republican trifecta and they’ve been pushing project 2025 bills through here since the beginning of the year. People were so distracted by Trump they weren’t even paying attention to what was happening here, but once they started paying attention we started crushing these bills with overwhelming public comment.
There was an anti-education bill earlier this year where they were trying to take a whole bunch of classes out of public school, stuff like art and music and civics and finance. 30,000 people either logged on to oppose or showed up to testify in person in opposition. Less than 100 people supported this bill so it died.

Why put the word “now” in this sentence?

This has clearly been the case since the Dobbs ruling. This is also why Women’s health and Trans rights can never truly be disaggregated.
I keep wondering why the AMA hasn’t raised the issue of all of these lawyers practicing Medicine without a license?

I’m glad you won’t be commenting again since you’re full of bullshit.

Once again the fascists are trying to normalize hatred because trans people are just the beginning.
